I just got word from Tom Evans that the AFO August 20th show has been postponed. This is the second time AFO has had to postpone their Muay Thai/Kickboxing event. Here is the message from him:
“I regret to inform all our fighters, fans, venders, and AFO Staff that the Aug 20th show which was scheduled to be the 1st Kick Boxing show by the AFO has to be postponed.
I received an email from one of the commission members that they need to extend their own deadline with the rules for Kick Boxing. Mid May we were told they were putting a stop on any shows having Kick Boxing for 90 days till so they can get a set of rules in order we could work by. The 90 days would have ended mid Aug so we set the all Kick Boxing show on the 20th. I attended the meeting earlier this month while the worked the rules but they didn’t finish. There is another meeting on the 11th of August but I was told in the same email that even if they finish they will need another 90 days or so for whatever reason to get them in effect. This would then move Kick Boxing to the 1st of the year. I’m very sorry to have to cancel this show; I personally was really looking forward to it as I have been a fan of Kick boxing most my life. The card was complete, Tom Evans worked day and night one it along with myself and fighters were getting their medicals into the state.
As I get more information from the state I will keep all involved posted. “
It is unfortunate that AFO had to postpone the Muay Thai Kickboxing event but in order to have the show smooth sailing they need a set of rules done. I know that the commission at their recent meeting spend a great deal of time on the meeting about this topic. Mr. Tom Evans and others from AFO put a lot of hard work into the card and the fighters were all ready to go but these things happen. As Tom said the next MSAC meeting will be August 11th,2011 and I am sure this will be a topic of discussion.
