Cage Titans 10/19/2013 Teaser

[Updated 10-18-2013--Kyle Bochniak is now fighting Max Barrett--]

Cage Titans returns this Saturday to Plymouth Memorial Hall with 16 fights which will be sure to have the CT fans cheering once again.  On the card there are 5 professional fights and also five title fights (four of them amateur) which will be sure to please.  Cage Titans crew does a fantastic job at providing us with many well matched fights and the fans always respond by attending every time!  Also on the card is the return of Erin Cooney from SSSF which the fans will see that women's mma is here to stay!  A few other things I would like to note is that there is an amateur debut of Team Ravenous's Jim McSweeney which will sure to be an entertaining fight.  Also there are many Quest MMA fighters on the card who come from New York and the fans will see they have some awesome fighters from that school.  At the intermission, there will be a grappling match between two young up and comers in which one of them is recently deceased Shayne Stephenson's brother.  Tickets are on sale at the link provided and also at the venue and starts at just $45 bucks.  Let me break down the card for you....

125lb AM – Sheriden Decristoforo (0-0, TriForce) vs Donavan Andrade (0-0, Independant)

Sheriden Decristoforo will face off against Donavan Andrade at 125lbs.  Sheriden will be making his amateur debut and is from Triforce MMA.  Donavan is an independent fighter and will also be making his amateur debut.  Both fighters will be using their small size and finesse to try to get the W and move on to face off with some of the other 125lbers in the division.  The 125lb division has been shaping up nicely over the last few years in New England. I am definitely looking forward to seeing these two guys scrap.

155 AM – Jim McSweeney (0-0, Ravenous) vs Mike Robertson (0-2, Independant)

For the second fight Western Mass's very own Jim McSweeney takes on Mike Robertson at 155lbs.  Jim trains out of Greenfield Mass with Team Ravenous.  He will be making his amateur debut and will be looking to show off the skills he has been learning with Ravenous.  His opponent Mike is an independent fighter and has an 0-2 record.  I wasn't able to find all the info on Mike but I found that he lost one of his fights due to submissions.  This will be a great fight to start off the night of fights!

148lb AM – Devin Carrier (0-0, Clinch MMA) vs Stephanos Kampouris (1-1, Wai Kru)

Then at 148 lbs Devin Carrier takes on Stephanos Kampouris.  Devin is from Clinch MMA and will be making his amateur debut.  Clinch MMA is out of Fall River Mass. Stephanos is from Wai Kru and comes into this fight with a 1-1 record.  He lost his first bout to Manny Bermudez by submission.  He then won his second fight against Max Barrett by tko stoppage.  He will be looking to continue his winning ways with a win this Saturday night.  The question I have in this fight is if Devin will have enough to win against Stephanos with a 2 fight experience.

Hvy AM – Mark Gerossie (0-0, Team Gerossie) vs Guy Matisis (0-0, SSSF)

Next up is a heavyweight fight between Mark Gerossie and Guy Matisis.  Mark is making his amateur debut and is from Team Gerossie.  His opponent Guy is from SSSF and is also making his amateur debut.  Not much insight I can offer on this one but I do enjoy seeing raw talent of two new fighters in the cage.

155lb AM – Stephen Langlais (1-6, Team BKJA) vs Ruso Khubejashvili (5-1, Connors MMA)

Stephen Langlais takes on Ruso Khubejashvili at 155lbs amateur.  Stephen is 1-6 and is from team BKJA.  Stephen always fights tough fights and that is why his record suffers.  He is always looking for the challenge and this fight is another challenge for sure.  On paper, fans may see this as a mismatch but Stephen has lost all 6 of his fights to beasts by decisions.  Ruso suffered his first loss at his last fight and will be looking for the quick W with his striking.  He has a good ground game too so this should be an awesome fight.  If I had to choose the result I am going with Ruso with the decision.

165lb AM – Justin Ouellette (0-0, Xcel) vs Sean Sparrow (1-0, ProElite)

At 165lbs Justin Ouellette takes on Sean Sparrow.  Justin will be making his amateur debut and is from Xcel MMA.  Sean is from Pro Elite and has a 1-0 record.  He won back in April by rear naked choke against Jason Carter at a previous Cage Titans show.  Here is another close match up that will be sure to deliver some solid mma action.  I give the slight edge to Sean due to the experience on this one.

155lb AM – Kyle Bochniak (3-1, Carlson Gracie) vs Max Barrett (2-1, MAXX Training)

Kyle Bochniak takes on Max Barrett at 155lb amateur.  This fight was just added last minute and should be a great one. Kyle is from Carlson Gracie and has a 3-1 record.  Kyle has a tko victory, submission and decision so far in his career.  He lost a decision to John Santos at a previous Combat Zone.  His opponent Max is 2-1 and is from Maxx Training.  He has a tko and a decision victory so far in his career.  His only loss came to Stephanos Kampouris via tko stoppage.  He has fought all of his fights for Cage Titans.  As you can see this fight is very well matched.  Both fighters are very well rounded and I know are going to bring it which is why it closer to the end of the undercard.  This one is just too close for me to choose a winner.

115lb AM – Shannon Harney (2-3, Independant) vs Erin Cooney (2-0, SSSF)

Now for the female bout between Shannon Harney and Erin Cooney at 115lbs.  Shannon is an independent fighter and has a 2-3 record.  She has lost two fights by submission and one by ref stoppage to strikes.  She won 2 of her fights by ref stoppage to strikes.  She hasn't fought since 2010 but is looking to bounce back with the W.  Erin 'FunSize' Cooney is from SSSF and has a perfect 2-0 record.  She won her first fight for NEF up in Maine by ref stoppages to strikes.  She won her second fight at CFX but I can't remember off the top of my head how.  She is ready to go for her 3rd victory this Saturday!  This fight is going to be a battle and I hope for Shannon's sake she doesn't get hurt because she has a fight for NEF on November 9th.

170 lb AM Title Fight Felix Gomez(Florian 2-1) vs. Richard Hunter (DCNU 3-1)

For the first fight of the main card Felix Gomez takes on Richard Hunter for the 170lb amateur title.  Felix is from Florian MMA and has a 2-1 record.  He has won a decision and a ref stoppage to strikes so far in his amateur career.  He has lost one decision to Jeff Hsu.  Richard is from DCNU and is coming from CT to fight for this belt.  He has a 3-1 record.  I wasn't able to find all of his fights but he won one by submission and one by strikes.  He lost by a KO to Addison O'Neil at a previous WNXFA.  Man this fight is going to be a good one.  Both fighters have fought the same caliber of fighters and really any fighter can take this fight, it is that close.

185lb Ammy Title Fight Michael Rodriguez(Trifecta 3-1) vs. Mark Glover (Quest MMA 3-1)

Next up Mike Rodriguez is fighting Mark Glover for the 185lb Ammy Title Fight.  Mike is from team Trifecta and has a 3-1 record.  He won his first 3 fights by finishing his opponents and won the Cage Titans Title.  He then fought for CFX against Buck Pineau for a title and was caught in a guillotine in Round 3.  He hasn't fought since February but is ready to defend and show how hard he has been training lately.  Mark is from Quest MMA and has a 3-1 record.  He has won two KO and one ref stoppage.  He lost his first fight by ref stoppage to strikes.  Both of these guys have power and this fight can end at anytime so watch out MMA fans.

145lb Ammy Title Fight Peter Barrett(Maxx Training 4-2)  vs. Nestor X (Renzo Gracie CT 4-0)

Now for the 145lb ammy title fight between Peter Barrett and Nestor X.  Peter is from Maxx Training and has a 4-2 record.  He has lost two fights, one by submission and one by decision.  He has won 3 out of his four fights by way of fist and the other one was by decision.  His last fight he won with a knockout over Ruso K who at the time was undefeated 5-0.  His opponent Nestor is from Renzo Gracie CT and has a perfect 4-0 record.  He has won all four of his fights by submission and most of them were guillotine.  He is the real deal and this is going to be a tough fight for both fighters.  This is going to be a striker versus grappler match up.  Slippery Pete will do his best to keep Nestor on his feet and use his strikes to win this fight.  Nestor will most likely want to take this fight to the ground and do what he does best and that is get that Submission!  This has fight of the night written all over it.

160lb Catchweight Pro Alo Alf (0-2 Quest MMA) vs. Bobby Flynn (2-1 Pro Elite)

For the first professional fight Alo Alf takes on Bobby Flynn at a catchweight of 160lbs.  Alo is from Quest MMA and has an 0-2 record.  He has lost two fights by decision.  Bobby is from Pro Elite and has a 2-1 record.  He won his two fights by submission and one of them was to submission to strikes.  His only loss was to Jay Bakanowski by submission.  I haven't see Alf fight yet so I am anxious to see what he can do in the cage.

145lb Pro Keegan Hornstra( Kaos 1-7) vs. Dominic Warr(3-3 Wai Kru)

At 145lbs Keegan Hornstra faces off against Dominic Warr.  Keegan is from team Kaos and has a 1-7 record.  Keegan lost his first 7 fights but won his first professional victory against Chris Paolini by submission in Rd 1.  He is hungry for his second pro victory.  Dom is from Wai Kru and has a 3-3 record.  He has won 3 decisions and lost one by decision, one ref stoppage to strikes and one disqualification.  This should be a pretty good battle but I give the edge to Dominic Warr.  I see Dom winning this early by ref stoppage to strikes but hey this is MMA and anything can happen!

175lb Pro Fight  Brian Sparrow(1-0 Pro Elite) vs. Chris Paolini (0-3 Mendes Martial Arts)

Next up is 175lb pro fight between Brian Sparrow and Chris Paolini.  Brian is from Pro Elite and has a 1-0 record.  I saw his first pro fight for CES in which he won by submission in Rd 3 against Ruben Ortiz.  He looked to have a great ground game and showed some good ground and pound.  Chris took this fight on short notice and is from Mendes Martial Arts.  He has an 0-3 record in which he lost 2 by submission and one by knockout.  I give the edge to Brian Sparrow in this one.  I see him winning this one in Rd 2 or 3 by submission.

135lb Pro Fernando Perez (CCFA 4-7) vs. Joe Cushman (Lauzon MMA 10-4)

Then Titans has the 135lb pro fight between Fernando Perez and Joe Cushman.  Fernando is from CCFA and has a 4-7 record.  He lost the majority of his fights by submission and decisions.  He won his fights by submissions and ref stoppages to strikes from what I found online.  Being from CCFA, I know he will be prepared for a battle.  Joe is from Lauzon MMA and has a 10-4 record.  Joe has won the majority of his fights by decisions.  He lost 1 by ref stoppage to strikes, 2 by submissions and one by decision.  This is going to be a battle for sure but I give the edge to Cushman.  I see him winning this one by decision.

125lb Pro Title Fight Darren Mima(Quest 3-1) vs. Robbie Leroux (6-2 Clinch MMA)

For the main event, Darren Mima takes on Robbie Leroux for the 125lb pro title fight.  Darren is from Quest MMA and has a 3-1 record.  He is from New York and has done quite well fighting in Massachusetts.  He has beaten Billy Giovanella by ref stoppage to strikes and defeated Dan Cormier by submission.  He also won a decision in his career and his sole loss came by submission back in 2012.  I have seen his last two fights for AFO and he looked very comfortable on the ground.  Robbie is from Clinch MMA and comes into this fight with a 6-2 record.  He has lost one fight by decision and one by tko/ko stoppage.  He is very well rounded and has wins by submission, tko stoppages and decisions.  He has also been fighting professionally since 2009.  This is going to be an awesome battle and really could go either way.  I feel this is going to be a ground battle between both fighters and we are just going to have to wait to see how this one plays out this Saturday evening.

There you have the full breakdown of the upcoming Cage Titans event that will take place this Saturday on October 19th, 2013.  Cage Titans has done a fantastic job at keeping us in the loop and putting up once again a sick card.  Warchild and I will be making the trip down for this one due to The Boss and The Artist helping their teammate in the cage.  We will be taking a few pictures but won't be cageside to capture the action for this one.  Don't worry Rich O will be there taking awesome photos. I will be doing the live play by play for those of you who can't make it, assuming I can get on the wifi.  Also, Prime Athletics will be at Cage Titans and are offering a "Warrior Give Back" program.  Purchase from Prime Corp and your supported fighter will receive 10% back. Tell us, which fight are you most excited about???  See you all there.
