UFC 168 Results and Thoughts

Saturday night's UFC 168 was a memorable one for sure.  There were so many great fights on that night and I figured I would post the results and give my 2 cents to it all.  Obviously most people have heard the main event result in which Anderson Silva suffered a broken leg and went down in pure agony.  It was the 'snap heard 'round the world. Chris Weidman went over right away to make sure he was ok as you can see in the picture.  Now this was such a fluke thing that has only happened twice ever in the UFC.  Nobody did anything wrong and it was just as Jesse Camp from Warrior Nation stated "a perfect storm." I will admit, I couldn't watch the slow mo replay because I don't like to see bad breaks like that. Well Anderson underwent surgery and is going to leave the hospital early this week.  The surgery was a success and they don't know his thoughts yet on if he will fight again. However broken legs do take around 3 to 6 months to heal.  His future is uncertain but I know we all don't want to see him go out like that.  In my opinion he is the greatest mma fighter of all time.  I think he can return for sure but if he will ever be a champ again, to me that is doubtful.  Hats off to Weidman on the win and it seems that he has a date with Belfort in his future.

Chris Weidman def. Anderson Silva  to retain middleweight title TKO (injury) - Round 2, 1:16

Ronda pretty much dominated her fight and the one trick pony made a few armbar attempts and won once again by armbar.  Her striking looked real good and she held her own.  She got some awesome takedowns and judo throws and moved right into full mount which was impressive.  Wait if she can do all that, how is she a one trick pony?  She would not shake hands or let Miesha help her up and the world all reacted to that how unsportsmanlike she was.  She went on the mic and said that Miesha disrespected her family and that is why she won't shake hands.  She did however congratulate her on the Miesha on the tough fight.  It doesn't really upset me, Ronda likes being the bad ass chick and it is her choice and I respect her for that.  Her next fight will be Feb 22nd against Sara McMann.  Wrestler vs Judo. I can't wait for this one!

Ronda Rousey def. Miesha Tate  to retain women's bantamweight title submission (armbar) - Round 3, 0:58

I thought Barnett was going to win this match up with his experience and his wrestling.  Travis won the exact same way he defeated Gonzaga.  When Barnett was going for the takedown and fighting for it, Travis ko'd him with elbows to the side of the head.  They were not illegal 12 to 6 elbows as they were arcing if you watch the replay.  Travis is moving up the heavyweight ranks and I am ready to see him fight a top 3 fighter!

Travis Browne def. Josh Barnett  knockout (knee and elbows) - Round 1, 1:00

Miller looked very impressive and won with a slick armbar which should have won submission of the night in my opinion but instead Ronda got it as along with fight of the night.

Jim Miller def. Fabricio Camoes  submission (armbar) - Round 1, 3:42

Pourier won as he should have with Diego weighing in 8 lbs over.  He lost a chunk of his purse and lost the fight as well.  Dustin looks like a force to be reckoned with and I would keep my eye on him if I were you all.

Dustin Poirier def. Diego Brandao  TKO (punches) - Round 1, 4:54

In another strange occurence Chris Leben pulled himself out of the fight against Uriah Hall.  Uriah rocked him within seconds of the last round and almost got the stoppage.  Leben went to his corner and asked if he had was knocked out and his corner said yes.  He then said I'm done with this fight and then the doctor agreed and stopped the fight.  Very rare and I hope Leben still has a few more fights left in him!  Much respect to Uriah and Leben.

Uriah Hall def. Chris Leben TKO (doctor's stoppage) - Round 1, 5:00

Johnson looked impressive once again with another knockout punch and if I am not mistaken that is two wins in a row by KO over two very tough opponents.

Michael Johnson def. Gleison Tibau knockout (punches) - Round 2, 1:32

Dennis Siver def. Manny Gamburyan unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) - Round 3, 5:00

Doomsday won every round and survived the fart from Siyar and everything else he could dish out.  Doomsday really fell into his groove on the 3rd round and got in some big ground and pound that sealed the deal in my eyes.  Congrats to you Doomsday on your second UFC victory in a row!

John Howard def. Siyar Bahadurzada unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) - Round 3, 5:00

Macario looked really good against a tough Voelker who was bleeding from a nasty gut above the nose and the nose as well.  He started round 3 and blood was flowing freely as it could not be stopped.  Much respect to Bobby for taking this fight to a decision as he lost a lot of blood.

William Macario def. Bobby Voelker unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) - Round 3, 5:00
Robert Peralta def. Estevan Payan knockout (punches) - Round 3, 0:12

Tell us your thoughts UFC fans!  Let me know if you enjoy these recaps and I will try to do them more often.  We can't do everyone as sometimes we miss the events while we are out covering a local show.
