COMBAT ZONE 58 5/13/16 LIVE REVIEW


We arrived at the Rockingham Park and are patiently waiting for the fights to start.  There are a total of 10 fights on the night and 6 of them will be mma fighting including 2 amateur title fights.  We had to stop and talk to our buddies Joe Harrington, Dan Bonnell, Flano, Lynne and Markie the DJ.  John Vena is the host of the night and Adam Sawyer is shadowing before making his reffing debut.  Hope he doesn't mess up too bad!  Just kidding, buddy.  The beautiful ring girls are Lauren and Melissa! The Combat Zone fans are piling in and the fights are about to start.  Follow along as I recap the night.








185 AM KICK Colby Hakkila (0-0) Choi's vs. Kristian Lombari (0-0) Team Fury

Kristian rushes in and gets in combo that sends Colby to the mat.  Ref lets them both up and Kristian connects with another hard shot that sends Colby to the mat again.  He gets the 10 count and the fight resumes.  Kristian connects with some more heavy shots with a mix to body and head and Colby goes down again.  Ref has seen enough!

Kristian Lombari defeats Colby Hakkila via tko stoppage to strikes at 1:15 in Rd 1.





135 AM KICK Aaron Jack 0-0 (Ind) vs. Corey Palmer 0-0 (Team Link Hooksett)
Aaron starts the round off with a couple of kicks.  Corey comes back hitting hard.  Corey is laying into him with punches and Aaron is in defense mode.  Aaron comes forward with a good combo.

Palmer 10-9

Rd 2:  Aaron starts the round off with two jabs.  Corey is overpowering Aaron again and Aaron looks exhausted.  Aaron keeps putting his hands down and the ref has seen enough and stops the fight.

150 AM KICK Corey Gilman (0-0) Choi's vs. Ivan Sanchez (0-0) NETT

Ivan is overpowering Corey and winning the round.  Ivan gets hit and gets knocked to the mat.

Sanchez 10-9

Rd 2:  We are right back where we started and Corey gets knocked to his feet.  He stands back up quickly and the fight resumes.  Ivan connects with a solid combo and finishes it with an uppercut and the crowd roars.  Corey is getting the 10 count as the round ends.

Rd 3:  They are swinging away and Ivan seems to be getting the better of the exchange.  Corey is getting in a combo as the round ends.

Ivan Sanchez defeats Corey Gilman via unanimous decision.






130 AM KICK Alex Walker (0-1) Team Kaze vs. Crystal Demers (0-0) Team Fury

They start swinging and Alex gets knocked to the mat as she slips.  Fight resumes and Crystal is using her long reach to keep the distance.  Crystal seems to be getting the better of the exchanges.  She gets in a front kick and knocks Alex to the mat.

Demers 10-9

Rd 2:  Alex keeps coming forward to close the gap but Crystal keeps winning the exchanges with kicks and punch combos.

Rd 3:  Alex is rushing in once again but and keeps eating punches and kicks.  Alex can sure take a hit.  She ate clean kicks to the head and is still standing.

155 AM MMA Alex Johnson (2-2) Independent vs. Brian Cosco (2-4) Ironhouse/SYT

Brian goes for a takedown and gets slammed to the mat.  Brian moves and slips out of the guillotine and moves to the side.  Alex gets the sweep and is laying down bombs from the top.  He gets bucked up and they are back to their feet.  Cosco slams him back down to the mat and goes for an armbar.  Alex pulls his arm free and is now on top in half guard.  Brian does a good job at tying Alex up and not taking any damage.

Cosco 10-9

Rd 2:  Cosco goes for a takedown and gets pushed down to the mat.  Alex is now in guard and Brian works an armbar for the tap.

Brian Cosco defeats Alex Johnson via tapout to armbar at 41 seconds in Rd 2.





170 AM MMA Felipe Neto (0-0) CNBJJ vs. George Demers (0-1) Team Fury

Felipe rushes in and George tries for a guillotine.  He can't get the finish and he tries for it again.  Once again he can't get the finish.  Felipe rushes in and works a guillotine of his own for the tap.

145 AM MMA Alex Sinprasith (6-12) Crowsnest vs. Brendan Marotte (1-1) PMA

They are swinging for the fences.  Brendon is connecting with some good shots.  He connects with a right that drops Alex as he is going for a takedown.  He is hanging onto dear life to that leg and Brendan keeps unloading with punches and the ref stops it.

155 AM MMA Taylor Costantino (2-1) Team Irish vs. Gerald Meuse (3-1) Sityodtong

Taylor connects with a kick and slips.  He bounces back up and fight resumes.  Gerald gets in an outside kick.  Taylor tosses Gerald to the mat and they scramble.  Gerald is full mount and laying down bombs.  He gets the ref stoppage.

Combat Zone gives out Fighter of the Night award to Crystal Demers.




185 AM MMA TITLE Jordan Faulkner (2-0) Spero's vs. John McAndrews (4-1) Gate City

Jordan starts with a right hook.  John is staying with Jordan and Jordan gets the takedown from the clinch.  He is on top in guard and working some ground and pound.  Jordan picks him up and slams John back to the mat and the crowd cheers.  John gets a leg up and has half butterfly but can't get the roll.

Faulkner 10-9

Rd 2:  Both fighters are throwing high kicks.  Now we got a fight going as both fighters are connecting with their strikes.  Jordan connects with a clean right.  Jordan misses with a superman punch and slips to the mat.  John takes advantage and is on top in guard.  John connects with some knees to the thigh before the round ends.

McAndrews 10-9

Rd 3:  Jordan connects with an inside leg kick.  He goes high and John counters with a right.  John is looking for the takedown and Jordan pulls him down with a guillotine.  Not much action and ref stands them up.  Jordan connects with a kick and John counters with a right.  Jordan connects with a kick that drops John but he bounces right back up.

Faulkner 10-9

Rd 4:  Jordan connects with another head kick.  He is looking for the single leg and John gets in a knee to the body.  Jordan rolls him and they scramble and John has the top position.  John is now in half guard.  He gets in a few hammerfists but not enough action and ref stands them up.  Jordan dives for a takedown and John hip tosses him to the mat.  He gets in some punches to from the side as the round ends.

McAndrews 10-9

Rd 5:  John is stalking his prey and working his punches.  Jordan fires back with a good combo.  John keeps coming forward and Jordan dives for a takedown.  Jordan is looking for an armbar but John gets out and ends up in half guard.  Jordan is working his way up and stands up at the last second as the round ends.

John McAndrews defeats Jordan Faulkner via unanimous decision.  What a war, there was no loser in this fight!  Congrats to John for the hard earned title.








155 AM MMA TITLE  David Brown (2-0) LRVT vs. Shawn Melanson (3-0) Gate City/NETT

Both fighters are being cautious.  Shawn rushes in with an uppercut and slams David to the mat.  He has the side and threatens with a kimura.  He moves to full munt and is looking to drop bombs.  He has the hooks slightly but slips off the side.  Dave is now on top and gets in a few punches before the round ends.

Melanson 10-9

Rd 2:  Dave connects with a kick to the body and a cross that drops Shawn.  Dave goes hard for the finish with a barrage of ground and pound and gets the finish.

David Brown defeats Shawn Melanson via tko stoppage to strikes at 59 seconds in Rd 2.  Piglet and I are in shock.  Congrats to David Brown on the belt and the win!

Combat Zone 59 will be held at Rockingham Park at August 5th, 2016 so mark your calendars on that one.  It was a solid night of fights as every fight delivered excitement.  There wasn't a single fight that night that I remember I was bored watching so hats off to the fighters.  Well I am off to bed as we have NEF tomorrow night so I hope you enjoyed our review.  All of our photos were taken by Warchild and they will be up on our facebook for you all to enjoy.  If you enjoyed this article please share with your friends whether it be on social media or just gathering around the computer!  Do people still do that?
