COMBAT ZONE 52 1/30/2015 EVENT REVIEW



We arrived at Combat Zone and the arena was packed with fight fans.  I apologize for not feeling well enough to be able to write up a preview for this card but hopefully you all are still as excited about the fights as I am.  Combat Zone has a total of 7 fights this evening.  Due to making weight issues only one of the three title fights is taking place tonight.  The fights are still on they are just not a title fight.  John Vena is the host and the refs are John English and Steve Rita.  The famous Mark Oliveri is handling the sounds.  The girl pictured above did a great job on the national anthem.  Let us get to the fights now!



145 AM Kyle Adams (0-0 PMA) vs. Raphael Duran (0-0 Spero's MMA)

They clinch up against the cage. Duran is fighting for a takedown but cant quite get it.  They break and Adams gets the takedown. He takes the back as the round ends.

Adams 10-9

Adams gets in a big kick and sinks in the d'arce choke for the tap.

Kyle Adams defeats Raphael Duran via tapout to d'arce choke at 34 seconds Rd 2.






155 lbs.- CJ Kelvin (0-1 Lakes Region Vale Tudo) vs. Peter Ishiguro (0-0 Wai Kru)

Ishiguro goes for the teakedown but is stuffed.  CJ connects with a right hand and the fight goes to the ground.  Ishiguro is controlling the side.  He gets bucked off and then jumps back into action.  He is in half guard.  Ishiguro takes the full mount briefly then looks for the americana.

Rd 2:  Ishiguro gets the takedown and is getting in some ground and pound.  CJ does an excellent job in both rounds so far minimizing the damage.  Ishiguro gets full mount and gets pushed off right away.  Ishiguro pins CJ up against the cage and gets in some heavy hands for the ref stoppage.

Peter Ishiguro defeats CJ Kelvin via tko stoppage to strikes at 2:31 in Rd 2.







152 AM Will McCall (1-1 Team Irish) vs. Mike Scappacchio (2-0 Spero's MMA)

Will starts us off with a series of leg kicks.  Mike connects with a jab and they go to the ground briefly.  They are back up and Mike is fighting for the single leg.  Will connects with a couple of jabs and Mike goes for a takedown again as the round ends.

Close round Scappachio 10-9

Rd 2:  Will starts us off with a leg kick.  Mike connects with a wild right that drops Will.  He quickly covers trying to get the finish but it looks like Will is back in it.  Mike takes the back but Will does an excellent job at shaking him off.  They are both in the center swinging wildly.  The crowd is going nuts!!  Mike gets the takedown and Ian ends up on the outside dropping hammerfists as the round ends.

Scappachio 10-9

Rd 3:  Will gets in an outside leg kick.  They are both throwing leg kicks in the center.  They go to the ground and Mike takes the back and works a rear naked choke for the tap.

Mike Scappacchio defeats Will McCall via tapout to rear naked choke at 1:26 in Rd 3.  Fight of the night so far!









155 lbs.-  Brian Cosco (2-1 Iron House MMA/BTT) vs. Ryan Dibartolemeo (2-3 Triumph MMA)

Cosco goes for the takedown and Ryan ends up on top.  Ryan postures up and gets in 3 heavy fists to the face before he gets bumped back to guard.  Ryan gets in a few more punches before the round stops.

Dibartolemeo 10-9

Rd 2:  Ryan connects with a solid right hand then goes for the double leg and gets it.  He takes the back briefly and Brian is working his way up.  Ryan suplexes him back down.  Ryan works a tight arm triangle but he holds on until the end of the round.

Rd 3:  They clinch and Brian gets in a knee to the body before the break.  Brian connects with a jab and takes him down with a guillotine.  Ryan slips out and is now on top in guard.  Ryan gets pushed off and dives back into the guard.  He takes the back and has the legs hooked.  Brian turns and Ryan gets in the arm triangle for the tap.

Ryan Dibartolemeo defeats Brian Cosco via tapout to arm triangle at 2:56 in Rd 3.








205 AM TITLE Crowsneck Boutin (6-6 Choi's MMA) vs. Xavier Vargas (3-2 Spero's MMA)

Both fighters are working their leg kicks.  Seems to be pretty even so far in the round.  Xavier backs Crow into a corner and Crow ends up on top in the scramble.

Close round Crow 10-9

Rd 2:  They are swinging for the fences.  Crowsneck is fighting for a takedown but is caught in a guillotine.  He gets out and Xavier goes for a takedown but Crowsneck ends up on top.  Xavier gets a takedown and is in guard and Crowsneck sweeps to end the round on top.

Xavier 10-9

Rd 3:  They are swinging for the fences again.  Xavier backs Crowsneck up into the corner of the cage and they are both firing shots wildly.  Looks like Rita missed a cup shot in the exchange. Xavier is connecting with a bunch of them and gets the ref stoppage.

Xavier Vargas defeats Crowsneck Boutin via tko stoppage to strikes at 1:33 in Rd 3.  Vargas becomes the 205 Combat Zone amateur champion.








170 AM  J.T. Harold (4-1 Sityotong) vs. Nick Alley (2-0-1 Team Link Hooksett)

Nick gets hit in the eye with a finger and takes a few minutes and fight resumes.  JT gets in a couple of straight rights.  Nick gets hit in the cup.  He takes a few minutes and the fight resumes.  Right back at it again!  JT is getting in some good combos this round.  Nick gets in a solid body shot.  JT connects with solid right and they are swinging away as the round ends.

Harold 10-9

Rd 2:  JT connects with a body shot.  Nick gets in an inside leg kick.  JT gets in a jab in an exchange.  JT gets the takedown and they both bounce right back to their feet.  JT gets in another body head combo.  JT with the takedown and takes the side.  He gets bumped back to half guard and Nick works a triangle and it looks tight right as the round ends.

Harold 10-9

Rd 3:  Nick gets the takedown and is on top in half guard.  JT gets some space and slides out the back door and they are back to their feet.  JT rushes in with an uppercut.  Nick connects with a right.  JT connected with two rights.

Nick Alley defeats JT Harold via split decision.  Wow awesome battle!!  I had it going the other way but the rounds were really close.













145 AM Jake "The Gorilla" Pilla (4-0 Wai Kru/Havoc) vs. Danny Abad (3-2 Chainsaw Army)

Jake rushes in for the single leg.  Danny stuffs it and they break.  Danny catches Jake with a punch and drops him.  Danny takes the back and is looking for the rear naked choke.  Jake fights it and is threatening with a straight arm bar.  Danny slips his arm through and takes Jake's back again.  Jake has the top position at the end and is laying down hammerfists as the round ends.

Abad 10-9

Rd 2:  Jake is fighting for a takedown and gets it.  Abad works his way up quickly.  Abad is calling for Pilla to come at him.  Abad works the takedown and Pilla gets the sweep as the round ends.

Pilla 10-9

Rd 3:  Jake is fighting for the takedown but can't get it.  Pilla rushes in with a superman punch.  Jakes gives up his back and Danny takes it.  Danny threatens with an armbar and Pilla gets space.  He postures up and takes the back as the round ends.

Abad 10-9

Danny Abad defeats Jake Pilla via unanimous decision.  Sounds like they need a rematch for the title!!












FIGHT OF THE NIGHT:  Nick Alley vs. JT Harold
SUB OF THE NIGHT:  Ryan Dibartolomeo arm triangle
KO/TKO OF THE NIGHT:  Xavier Vargas over Crowsneck Boutin

Combat Zone returns April 24th.  They gave the Fighter of the Night Award to Nick JC Alley.  There were only 7 fights but they were very well matched and they made for the perfect time for fights.  Special thanks to the fighters for putting on such a solid show and for Combat Zone crew for having us.
