πŸ“° NEWS--πŸ“° CORSON AND OUELLETTE ON COURSE FOR WELTERWEIGHT COLLISION IN BANGOR

[NEF PRESS RELEASE]

Bangor, Maine (January 11, 2023) – New England Fights (NEF) returns to the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor, Maine on February 11, 2023, with its next mixed-martial-arts (MMA) event “NEF 51: Banger in Bangor.”  Earlier today, the fight promotion announced the addition of an amateur welterweight fight to the card. Devin Corson (3-1) is scheduled to take on former Welterweight Title Challenger Curtis Ouellette (3-3) at a fight weight of 170 pounds.

Devin Corson will make his return to action in the NEF cage after an absence of more than three years.  He last competed at “NEF 40” in September 2019 with a win over Jacob Deppmeyer (currently 3-0 as a pro) by unanimous decision in an amateur lightweight bout.  A wrestling alum from Foxcroft Academy in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine, Corson has established a reputation for scoring highlight-reel slams and takedowns in the MMA cage.  The fight with Ouellette will be Corson’s first in the welterweight division.  He previously competed as a lightweight.  Corson represents Titan Athletics based in nearby Brewer, Maine.

“It’s been too long for me, said Corson. “I am excited to be able to come back and fight in front of my hometown with my new gym and coaches. I have nothing bad to say about Curtis, I don’t know him. I just know he’s in the way of a promise I made to my father before he died, and I am going to do everything I can to fulfill my promise. I have nothing personal against Curtis, just this fight is personal. Every fight moving forward is personal for me. May the best man win February 11th.”

Curtis Ouellette has been a fixture of the NEF cage dating back to 2018.  All six of his previous fights as an amateur have been with the promotion.  Ouellette has a reputation as a finisher with great hands with all three of his previous victories coming by way of knockout.  His first two wins of 2022 were impressive knockout victories that earned Ouellette a crack at the NEF Amateur Welterweight Championship at “NEF 48” last summer against Kyle Hill (3-0).  The wildly entertaining fight went deep into the third round before Hill was able to pull out the win.  Ouellette represents Central Maine Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (CMBJJ) based in Lewiston, Maine.

“I'm excited to be back in the NEF cage,” said Ouellette.  “The last six-months I've been training and improving in all aspects of my game. I can't wait to step into the cage and put on my best performance to date. There’s not much that I can say about Devin until he steps on the scale and proves that he can make weight. I’m ready to introduce him to the welterweight division.”

“NEF 51: Banger in Bangor” is scheduled for Saturday night, February 11, 2023, at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor, Maine.  Tickets are available now at www.TicketMaster.com.
