On Saturday June 25, myself and my friend/team mate, and newest WMMMA guest writter Scott "Skeeter Barnes" Stacy made the 2 hour trek out to Beantown to cover the Cage Titans event. Our trusty GPS pointed the way, and we made it with some time to spare.
The Local IBEW venue is easy to find, with plenty of free parking. Cage Titans promoter/match maker extrodinare Mike Polvere had our press passes put aside, and one of his lovely assistants showed us to the press area cageside. I introduced Big Skeet to the regulars...Denny "sea-legs"Siggins, and Mark Daniels, while Keegan Hornstrah and his MMA Horn were on the stage behind us streaming the event live!! I'd also like to note something before we get to the review...Polvere is THE most gracious host there is! His crew made sure that the press had cold drinks (soda and water) and even offered food throughout the night!! The hospitality was amazing, and I promise, I'll take you up on some pizza and hot dogs next show.....when I'm not dieting for a fight..;) on to the fights!!!

1. When and Why did you get into MMA??
I got into MMA when I was 16. I was actually, going up to a Dragon Lair Grappling Tournament in Natick to watch my brother and my friend Matt Vitale compete. On the way up we stopped at a Dunkin Donuts and some how they got on topic of wanting me to enter the tournament just for shits and giggles and they would pay my entry fee. Even though I had no experience and no idea what I was doing. I think I had a couple months wrestling experience at the time. I started
wrestling my sophomore year at Middleboro High so I was like sure, I didn't hesitate to say yea, I love to compete and I'm a quick learner, plus wrestling's half the battle, right? So I entered and they were trying to teach me a couple moves before my matches. None of which I remembered, but I think I had 3 matches and won 1 match, with an arm in guillotine. A couple people came up to me and asked how long I've been training, and that I was pretty good, I enjoyed the reactions on they're faces when I looked at the clock and told them about 20 minutes. ;P I fell in love with the sport and I've been doing it ever since.

HOLYOKE, Mass. (June 15, 2011) – The June 25th pro boxing show in Holyoke, only the second there in the last 50 years, is a true “Homecoming” for seven boxers scheduled to fight on the card, presented by American Fighting Organization, at the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Holyoke.
The WCF returns to The Shriner’s Auditorium for the first time in a year for their eleventh event. New to the team is ex-GFL matchmaker Dan Bonnell. Dan has made some of the biggest contributions to the local MMA scene for years through his fighting, writing and matchmaking abilities. I’m sure it didn’t hurt that he also has a swollen rolodex of fighters from his years of experience in the MMA world to match make for Joe Cavallaro.

Dana White has announced today that all non title main events signed from this day forward will be 5 rounds. This is to ensure less controversial decisions and hopefully in return the fights will be finished. There are rumors that perhaps the main event title fights could be extended to 7 rounds. Would this be a good move?? A lot of GSP fights are borefests and making it 7 rounds could result in a 35 minute borefest. Then again the fights could be finished a lot more often and many fighters may gas at that point especially the big heavyweights.
This new rule also includes UFC on Versus and main events on SPIKE TV. Dana White also announced that they will be adding a new 125lb division and expect to see fights by the end of 2011. This is very bold and exciting move for the UFC. We will now see many 135lbers drop down and fight at a more comfortable weight for them. Let me know what you guys think about all this??? Good move or bad move.
Karalexis, Howard exchange heated words on eve of main-event showdown
LINCOLN, R.I. (June 9, 2011) – The good will emanating from last week’s media teleconference between Alex Karalexis and Tiawan Howard evaporated in a heartbeat Thursday night as the two fighters engaged in a classic war of words at the final weigh-in and press conference for “Nowhere To Hide.”
Karalexis (10-5, 5 KOs), a former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) contender who’ll end his 14-month drought Friday, June 10th, 2011 against Howard (8-7, 3 KOs) in the main event of Classic Entertainment & Sports’ professional cage fighting show at the Twin River Event Center, took exception Thursday when his opponent weighed in at two pounds over the contract limit of 171. The Boston native promised to not only beat Howard, but “dominate,” sparking an animated reply.

Fight 8) Alex Karalexis (10-5) SSS/Sityodtong vs Tiawan Howard (8-7) Cleveland , Ohio
Well the fight between the fighters was heated and exciting, but the fight that ensued was the best. The decision was split and Howard takes it. We'll let you decide when you see the video.
Please Note that this same interview was also recorded and will be available as soon as we locate a suitable player to add to our site.
A. To elaborate (A LOT) on WNXFA, I explained a bit about my strong ties to the Marine Corp and the term Warrior. Nation is always a strong term no matter how frequently used but somehow the value is dependent on what its attached to for example... Red Sox Nation or Stephen Colbert's comical rants to his followers simply referred to as "Nation." Its a term of unity & cohesion partially defined as a large body of people, associated with a particular territory, that is sufficiently conscious of its unity. Combat sport in itself is undeniably extreme and I wanted that accented hence the "X". Its Fighters that I expose but most important is the combination of Nation and Alliance in the promotion's name that consists not only of the Warriors themselves but fans, friends, families, schools, coaches, trainers, teams, cage girls, announcers, refs, judges, doctors, media, the clothing lines, vendors, tee-shirt designers, graphic designers, print shops, tape and wrap techs, venues, all promoters, all promotions, all matchmakers, the websites.... Its so inclusive as it revolves all around everything from the 0-0 ammy to the superstar and legendary... Its a living breathing beast of intensity that is awesome to be a part of and watch grow at the same time. WNXFA is also growing as we have solidified our team of dedicated staff to include Tom Gomes as Vice President & Creative Director, Sara Gomes as Senior Graphic Designer, Dave Fesko as our Sponsor Coordinator, and our newest edition is Nick Newell as MMA matchmaker. Nick's a great person, pro fighter, and an avid follower of the sport with a lot of knowledge about the New England MMA scene and I am very proud to have him as a part of the team. He's an exceptional role model to the sport and I'm sure he's going to do great things both in the cage and out!

We are very pleased to announce Mr. Mark Hoxie has agreed to join our team. He brings many years of experience in MMA. He lives in Syracuse, NY but is no stranger to the MMA in MA. In fact you may have seen him fight before. Yes we know he is 0-9 but he has lost to a lot of great guys, Parker Porter, Kym Sturdivant, Nate Kitteredge and Paddy Thompson to name a few. His record may not show it but the guy has major heart for the sport. His focus will be on getting us some siko editorials and of course getting you all closer to the fighters!!

If you like awesome rock music….you gotta go check this band out. It is fronted by a very talented Vinny Sharma. They are currently working on their second single and the first single is “Machine” and can be found below. They do some awesome cover songs too so definitely check em out and and “like” them on FB to stay up to date. If you were wondering how this is MMA related, its because Sharmera performs at every AFO show and kicks off a night of awesome fights. Also you may not know this but Vinny used to be a wrestler. He was recruited by some top D1 schools and instead of college wrestling he decided to train as an MMA fighter. He trained with Dave Ginsberg as 2X Pan AM Champ and with Keith Florian. He also trained in Muay Thai so he is no stranger to the MMA world. Click the Read More button to check out his first single.

Almeida-Stevens showdown Friday could help determine UFC’s next superstar
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (June 6, 2011) – Even after catching a first-hand glimpse of his opponent three months ago, Cody Stevens remains unimpressed with Saul Almeida.
“A lot of people say he thinks that he’s the best 145-pounder in New England,” Stevens said. “I’ve seen and heard a million guys like him who say they’re the best. We’ll find out.”

“No matter what, both of us are going to get beat up,” Karalexis said. “He brings it and I bring it.”
Fighting for the first time since April of 2010 – and for the first time since signing a promotional agreement with Jimmy Burchfield’s Classic Entertainment & Sports – Karalexis (10-5, 5 KOs) will face Howard (8-7, 3 KOs) in the welterweight main event of CES’ “Nowhere To Hide” cage fighting show.
