We arrived at the show around 6:15pm and quickly found our spots. There are four projectors set up to show the live action. Suckerpunch Athletics is in the house. SuckerPunch Athletics sponsored the VIP section. The cage has a nice MacMulkin banner in the middle and around the top edges of the cage are all the local media websites up there. Thanks Coliseum to the Cage! CTTC puts in a lot of work into their shows and it shows. There are a few fights that are off the card. First one is the Yann Oliveira/Josh Beauparlant fight due to suspension. Then the Tim Caron/Davie Castro fight has been cancelled due to Davie not showing up to weigh ins. Jimmy Quinlan, George Abele, Joe Tien, Kin Moy, Mark Dellagrotte, Grant Tremmeling, Dan Bonnell, Chuck O'Neil, John Fain, Peggy Morgan, Mike Strazzere, Krystyne Curtis, Jennifer Kalos, Tyson Chartier, John Johnston, Dave Spero and Kevin the Ref to name a few. The place is starting to fill up and the fights are about to begin soon. If you haven't please follow Coliseum to the Cage fanpage on facebook by clicking the link.

Buck Pineau-Allan Josselyn Rematch to Headline Amateur Side of Card at New England Fights! Next Event on May 18 in Lewiston, Maine
Lewiston, Maine (March 28, 2013) -- It is not often that an amateur fight steals the show at a Mixed-Martial Arts (MMA) event and claims the "Fight of the Night" moniker. But that is exactly what middleweights Buck Pineau (5-2) and Allan Josselyn (3-1) did when they put on a show last September before some 3,000 rabidNew England Fights! (NEF) fans at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee.
"What a fight that was," exclaimed NEF co-owner and promoter Nick DiSalvo. "It was back and forth the whole way through. Buck took the first round. The second round was extremely close. And then Allan took the third."
Brandon Bushaw looks impressive once again in a great battle against Cody Sargent. Cody may not have won the rounds but he was tough enough that Brandon couldn't finish him.

Coliseum to the Cage had a successful first show. I was really impressed with how well the show ran and with their venue, the Sportzone in Derry New Hampshire. The fights were top notch too and this time around they are even better. They are ready for their second showing and they have put together 12 fights with 5 pro fights. The show will take place at the Sportzone in Derry New Hampshire and it will be this Saturday March 30th, 2013. The doors open at 6pm and the fights start tentatively at 7pm. Tickets are available at the door or online here starting at just $30. Now for the fun part where I break down the fight card for you all. Keep in mind this is probably not the fight order but the fights are accurate up until the date of this article.

1. When and Why did you get into MMA??
I started doing MMA in High school when a friend of mine told me about a place that his cousin used to train at, so I decided to try it because I was sick and tired of getting bullied by certain people. I wanted to learn how to defend myself properly and earn my respect from the ones that never gave it to me and if fighting the guys that use to bully me was the only way of getting it then I was going to do what I had to do, but not at any point did I think I would do MMA just to get revenge on anyone. I just really wanted to learn and get better.

New England Fights! and Bucksport's Ray Wood Sign Multi-Fight Contract, Announce First Fight of Deal Scheduled for May 18 in Lewiston, Maine
Lewiston, Maine (March 25, 2013) -- New England Fights! (NEF) is proud to announce the signing of Ray Wood (2-0) to its first multi-fight promotional contract. While the specifics of the contract remain undisclosed, sources close to the organization have revealed that the deal is structured long-term over the course of a minimum three fights to build Wood's career and get him to the next level in the sport.
"It's no coincidence that Ray is our first signing to a full promotional contract," said NEF co-owner and promoter Nick DiSalvo. "Matt (Peterson) and I are certain that not only will he get to the next level with one of the two major promotions, but that he will actually thrive at that level."
Great 125lb battle from the last NEF.

Sarah Payant(left) and Heather Lefevre (right) |
Premier FC announced earlier today of an an additional title fight that has been added to the already stacked Premier FC 13 show that will take place on April 28th, 2013. The show will take place in Holyoke Mass at the Log Cabin. Sarah Payant will take on Heather LeFevre for the very first 125lb amateur women's title. Sarah trains with Gladiator BJJ and comes into this fight with a 2-2 record. She started her amateur career at 0-2 where both fights were at 135lbs. She then dropped to 125lbs and has never looked back. She got her first amateur win against Christina Houlk where she won with a doctor stoppage in round 2. She then fought against Ashley Weber and won with a ref stoppage to strikes at the end of round 1. She has fought for Premier FC all four of her fights. No one is more deserving of a title shot than her. Her opponent Heather is coming all the way from New York to take on Sarah. According to mixedmartialarts.com she has an 1-2 record and has fought the same opponent twice. She trains with Tang Muay Thai and MMA. She lost a decision and one by submission. I believe she has had a few Thai fights as well. At 125lbs the female market is so slim and I am excited to see this fight right here in Western Mass. This fight is one of four title fights that are now on the current card. For tickets go to www.thepremierfc.com and get yours before it sells out. The rest of the card is found below.
135lb AM Title Fight Marvin Maldonado vs. Jeremy Reipold
145lb AM Title Fight Nestor Xicoh vs. Sam Nadeau
170lb AM Title Fight Tyler Rose vs. Elysee Sanon
125lb AM Women's title Sarah Payant vs. Heather LeFevre
Super HW Chris Johnson vs. Mike Baker
135lbs Brian Moylan vs. Adler Jack
170lb Myles Reid vs. Rick Rivera (Gladiator BJJ)

In the main event of that card, Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) veteran and Bangor, Maine native, Marcus "The Irish Hand Grenade" Davis (21-9) will take on New York's Darrius Heyliger (4-1) in a welterweight showdown. Davis is the founder of Team Irish, a Mixed-Martial Arts (MMA) breeding ground for competitors with locations in both Bangor and Portland. We are here now at Bellator. We walked in through the tunnel where the fighters walk out of. It was a pretty cool feeling. There are four big screens around the cage and the lighting is amazing. This is going to an action packed night. This is my first Bellator review so bear with me while I try to keep up with the action. As you can expect all the big guys are here. I got my media seat next to Old School and we are ready for the fights to start. Bellator hooks us up with a USB drive of posters and the complete media package. The refs are Kevin MacDonald and Dan Miragliotta. The national anthem has been sung and the fights are ready to begin. If you have an ipad or an iphone make sure you download the brand new Bellator app. It is an epic app that gives you real time stats of the fight and even lets you pick who you felt won the round. The place has filled up now and the Maine fans are ready for their first Bellator.

Bellator is days away of having its first show ever in Maine and they are looking to make it a memorable one. They have put together card packed with Maine fighters. If that wasn't enough excitement, that is just the undercard. The four fight main card features some top Bellator fighters including the lightweight tourney final. The show will be this Thursday on March 21st 2013 at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee in Lewiston Maine. We normally don't do teasers for Bellator but I have some time and this fight card is just too good to not break down. For those of you who aren't familiar with Bellator is they believe that the fighters have to win in tournaments to make it to the top and fight the champ. They have built their promotion around this concept and it makes a hell of a lot of sense. Bellator has the prelims on Spike.com or Bellator.com and then the main(e) card is on Spike TV. Now onto the fight card...

CES has just inked and announced two more fights for the April 12th 2013 show which will be at the Twin River Casino. First one is between Keenan Raymond and Jason Bakanowski. Keenan will be making his pro debut. Jay trains with Wai Kru and comes into this fight with a 1-1 record. He first fought for CES a while back against Leon Davis where he lost to unanimous decision. He then fought for Cage Titans against Bobby Flynn and won with a rear naked choke in Rd 2. This will be another battle you won't want to miss. This is a tough fight for both fighters. CES then later announced Kody Nordby against Jimmy Grant. Both fighters are 3-0 and one fighter will be getting their first professional loss that night. Kody has 3 submission victories in his pro career and is always a threat in the cage and he is just 19 years old! Jimmy is from New Jersey and is also 3-0. The fight card so far is found after the jump and it is shaping up to be another stellar card.
Premier FC made a big announcement today about doing a Coach's Challenge. Here is episode one and the coaches who are participating are Gabriel Gladiator Santos from Gladiator BJJ in West Springfield MA and Tyson Chartier from Sityodtong in Boston. It is the East Vs. West and they also displayed their new logo made by Nelson Gaipo. Great job Nelson and also great job with the video 17 Productions! Here is how it is going to work. The two coaches each get to pick 5 fighters. They do not have to be from their teams. There will be amateur 125lb female, 135lb, 145lb, 155lb and 170lb male. The coaches will train them and the deadline for them to choose is April 28th. They will be announced at the next PFC. They have til the next PFC show which is slated to be end of June/early July and the teams will fight each other. It will be a best out of 5. The coaches will win money as well as a Coach's Challenge Belt and all the other teams will win belts as well. Premier FC tells us "It is great to expose some of the fighters who have really made a difference in this sport and help market them and let them shine." This is a great way for teams to work together and it should make for some great match ups! Good luck to all the fighters and coaches and we will be looking forward to more episodes to come.

This guy is a complete moron and close minded. He talks about how MMA is barbaric and a disgrace to sports. As if it can't get any stupider he then says Bas invented the liver shot and then when he tries to talk about boxing, Mr. Begel says I don't want to talk about boxing. You just gotta see this for yourself.

Premier FC just announced a title fight that has been added to Premier FC 13. It is between Nestor Xicohtencatl and Sam Nadeau at 145lbs. Nestor trains with Renzo Gracie and comes into this fight with an undefeated 3-0 amateur record. He has won all three of his fights with submission and he won the title at the last Premier FC 12 against Ian McEwen. Nestor X has fought some tough fighters but in my opinion this will be his toughest fight yet. Sam comes into this fight with a 8-4 record and trains with Gladiator BJJ. Sam has many decision wins and some sub wins in his amateur career. His nickname is The Bull and if you have ever seen him fight you will see why. Both of these fighters are veterans to Premier FC and the fight fans are in for a real treat on this battle. This fight will be five rounds 3 minutes a piece but I highly doubt it will go that far with both of the fighters skillsets. Tickets are on sale from the fighters and the link here. Tickets start at just $25 bucks and it will take place on Sunday April 28th, 2013 at the Log Cabin in Holyoke Mass! See you all there.

AFO has updated their fight card an inked a huge battle for the 155lb pro title. It is between Lewis Corapi and Leon Davis. Lewis trains out of Sityodtong and has a 4-0 record. He just fought last month against Kevin Tjaden at the first event for New Hampshire Fight League and won with a ref stoppage to brutal leg kicks. He will be looking to keep his undefeated record intact but it will be no easy feat against Leon Davis. Leon trains with Fighting Arts Academy and comes into this fight with a 3-1 record. Leon is coming from a lost to Nate Andrews where he won the first round and ended up getting caught in a guillotine in Rd 2. Leon has two decision victories in his pro career. Lewis has two tko and two decision victories. This fight is a real close match up and could go either way. I, like many others think this fight has the ability to be fight of the year candidate. It is possible that it could go to a decision but remember fight fans, it is a title fight and will be a five rounder. Here is the rest of the AFO fight card below that they have released so far and tickets are available from the fighters or their website here. Hope to see you all there on April 27th, 2013.

By now I am sure you all have heard of Fallon Fox. She is a transgendered mma fighter who is in the CFA tournament. She won the first round knockout from knee to the head in just a mere 39 seconds. From what I read online there seems to be some issue with her licensing in Florida so CFA has cancelled their April 20th, show. Now during the licensing process they ask you what surgeries you have had so either she hid it or didn't. People will always have their own opinion in it all but in my thoughts are that everyone deserves the right to fight. My only issue is that this the fighters in the women's tournament had no clue about her being a transgender and neither did CFA. That is my issue as it should have been disclosed, not in the semi finals. Not that CFA would listen to me but I say replace her in the tournament with one of the girls who lost and move on. Sign her up for another fight and it is fair since her opponent knows about it. With testosterone replacement she has been taking, she says her level is the same of women. The obvious issue would be her bone structure but Fallon does have a point. Her opponent that she beat in the first round was a monster and looked bigger than her, she won it all with technique. Time will tell how this issue will be handled. I commend Fallon for coming out and handling all the negativity with grace.

Bellator 93 is less than a few weeks away before it makes its debut in Lewiston Maine on March 21st, 2013. Yesterday was announced that Douglas Lima who was supposed to be on the main card suffered a broken hand and that fight was moved to the summer. We were all wondering what fight will be added? Well the answer is Marcus Davis/Waachiim Spiritwolf fight will be moved up from the prelims to main card. This is good news for Bellator fans who didn't want to sit on the computer to watch the untelevised prelims on Bellator.com. Now you can relax with your adult beverage, recline and enjoy it on the big screen on Spike HD. The rest of the card is found below. Make sure to check back as I will be releasing the teaser for this awesome fight card in the week of.
Jimmy Quinlan fought on the Ultimate Fighter last night for Team Sonnen against a very tough opponent in Clint Hester. Jimmy was coming into this fight with a 3-0 record with two submission victories in his pro career. His opponent Clint Hester had a 7-3 record with 5 KO/TKO, 1 SUB and 1 decision in his career. Basically it is a classic striker vs grappler match up which is always a pleasure to watch. Jimmy said on the last show he needs to get in close and get his takedowns. Well, he did just that. In the first round he went in and got a few takedowns. It was not easy with Clint making him pay with some strikes and elbows. It was a close round but Jimmy in my opinion secured it with his takedowns and control. In the second round Hester goes for a takedown and Jimmy tries to submit him with a guillotine but in the end lets it go because it wasn't deep enough. Jimmy then takes the fight to the ground and gets in some ground and pound. He gets his opportunity and takes the back and in the end wins via rear naked choke. Jimmy shows that jiu jitsu wins fights. You can stand in there with powerful strikers but with a strong jiu jitsu pedigree and wrestling, you can win the battle. Great job Jimmy, we are all rooting for you to win the entire show!! Time will tell if that is the case but one thing is for sure, Jimmy proved he belongs on the show and can fight with the best of them. We already knew that though in New England, didn't we fight fans?? If you haven't yet, please like Jimmy's facebook fanpage here. He promises to post often with vlogs and he has been doing just that throughout the season!

AFO has announced earlier this week about a 145lb pro fighter tournament. It will take place during three of their shows after Night of Champions in April. The first round will be June 29th (Summer Brawl), round 2 Oct 5th (Halloween Havoc) and the final will be in November (Thanksgiving Massacre). The fighters get paid their normal money per fight but in the end the tournament winner is awarded with $10,000. Each fighter who is entered will sign a 3 fight deal and the goal is to have them all their for their April 27th show to announced and for photo opportunities. This is huge news for 145lbers to show everyone what you are made of and to get an awesome bonus at the end. Pete tells me "This will be a real test to the fighters who want or say they wanna be the best. We put up the largest payout , now its up to them." Make sure to contact Pete DiLorenzo to get in this awesome tournament. AFO has also updated their fight card and newest additions are Dan Cormier against Darren Mima and a few others. Fight card as it stands now has 20 fights and is found below. Tickets are available at the link here or by the fighters.

For those of you all who don't follow us on facebook and missed our announcement, Peggy Morgan was victorious this Saturday night in Florida at Championship Fighting Alliance. Her, and three other women advanced in the tournament and live to fight another day. I didn't get to see the fight but she won a unanimous decision against Revelina Berto. CFA on their fanpage stated "Morgan used her jiu jitsu and wrestling to stop Revelina Berto’s strike game plan to take the win." Fallon Fox won a knockout via knee in just 39 seconds in round 1 against Ericka Newsome. Ashlee Evans-Smith won a unanimous decision against Tori Adams. Lastly, Allanna Jones won a split decision against Kelsey de Santis. Congrats to all the ladies with their wins and on their advancement. Peggy will face Ashlee Evans-Smith in the next round which should be happening at CFA 11 On June 16th, 2013. Ironically enough Ashlee was originally set to face Peggy but CFA ended up switching the opponents around but it makes no difference to the ladies in the tournament! They will find ways to win no matter what. The ladies are fighting to be crowned CFA champion and for $20,000. Good luck to you all!

Here is the battle from the last CES between Darrius Heyliger and Wilfredo Santiago. Darrius did an excellent job at using his long legs to keep the distance and ultimately win the decision. Very smart on his part.

There has been lots of mma stars from New England displaying their skills in the bigger shows lately I wanted to do a quick article to keep you all up to date so we don't all get lost. Last night, in Bellator, Brennan Ward fought Yair Moguel and won the fight with a rear naked choke in just 57 seconds in round 1. This was a great win for Brennan who was caught in a slick armbar submission very quickly just a few week ago for Bellator. Also that night Katie Merrill fought Holly Holm. Now I didn't get to watch the fight but Holly ended up winning via tko strikes at 3:02 in round 2. I first saw Katie grapple Sarah Payant at a PFC and she is a nasty grappler that comes out of Wai Kru. Keep your head up Katie, I know you will bounce back. Also this weekend for CFA this Saturday night Peggy Morgan takes on Revelina Berto. Peggy comes into this fight with a 1-0 record and Revelina is 3-0. I know she is ready for the challenge and to put on a show. We will keep you all posted on that one. Earlier this week Karo Parisian signed on to fight Rick Hawn on the April 4th Bellator. Then Bellator also announced Bombsquad's Shabulat Shamhalaev will fight Pat Curran also on the April 4th card. Lastly, on The Ultimate Fighter next Tuesday Jimmy Quinlan will be fighting a tough striker Clint Hester. We will all be rooting for you Jimmy! I don't know about you all but I am loving Bellator with all the local signings from New England. I can't wait to go to my first Bellator when they invade Maine and congrats to all the local fighters on their MMA progression!
